Car key replacement at your car, anywhere in the Valley

Desert Locksmith is a mobile locksmith. Our van carries the key blanks, key machines and programming equipment, so we cut and program your new key right where your car is parked — in your driveway, at work, or in a parking lot. No tow truck, no waiting days for a dealer appointment. Most car key jobs are finished in under an hour on site, depending on the model.

What car key replacement costs

Honest ranges, so you know what to expect before you call. Most jobs fall inside these ranges; the exact price depends on your car’s make, model and year, and we give it to you on the phone before we drive out. That is the price you pay.

Service Most jobs
Spare key — chip key, you still have a working key $95–$285
All keys lost — chip key $150–$295
Push-to-start smart key or key fob $165–$395
Car lockout (keys locked inside) $75–$150

We accept cash and cards (card payments carry a 4% fee). Keys and remotes we supply come with a 3-month warranty, and every key is tested on your car before we leave.

Spare key or all keys lost — what’s the difference?

Spare key: if you still have one working key, we copy and program a second one. It’s quicker and costs less, which is why the best time to get a spare is before you lose your only key.

All keys lost: if you have no working key, we make one from scratch. We cut the key to your car’s lock and program it to the car’s immobilizer. On many models we can also erase the lost keys from the car, so whoever finds them can’t start it.

Push-to-start smart keys and key fobs

Newer cars use a proximity smart key: the car senses the fob in your pocket and starts with the push of a button. We supply and program smart keys and remote fobs for most push-to-start cars, in two options — the original factory key (OEM), or a quality aftermarket key that costs less. We’ll tell you both prices on the phone.

Why key fobs fail in Phoenix

Heat is hard on key fobs. Most fobs run on a small coin battery rated to work up to about 140°F. According to the National Weather Service, a closed car can pass 140°F within minutes on a hot day, and a dark dashboard can reach 180–200°F. A spare fob that lives in the glovebox all summer is sitting well past its battery’s limit.

The signs: shorter range, buttons that work only sometimes, a “key not detected” message on a push-to-start car, or a cracked case. A few habits help:

  • Don’t keep your spare fob in the car — keep it at home.
  • Replace the fob battery about once a year.
  • Know where the hidden metal key inside your fob is; it opens the driver’s door if the battery dies.

If a new battery doesn’t fix it, the fob itself may be damaged. We can replace the case, or supply and program a new fob.

Makes we work on

American: Ford, Lincoln, Chevrolet, GMC, Buick, Cadillac, Dodge, Jeep, Ram and Chrysler. Japanese: Toyota, Lexus, Scion, Honda, Acura, Nissan, Infiniti, Mazda, Subaru and Mitsubishi. Korean: Hyundai, Kia and Genesis. We do not work on Tesla.

Prices, key types and what to expect for the most common makes: Toyota keys, Ford keys, Chevy & GMC keys, Nissan keys, Hyundai & Kia keys and Jeep, Dodge, Chrysler & Ram keys. Key turns but won’t start, or sticks in the lock? See Honda ignition repair.

What to have ready

For your protection, we make car keys only for the owner. Please have your photo ID and proof of ownership — the registration or title. Desert Locksmith is a NASTF-registered Vehicle Security Professional, which lets us get security codes for protected vehicles directly; for those models, the name on your ID and registration must match.

Why not just go to the dealer?

If you have lost every key, most dealers need the car brought to them — which often means a tow — and a key may take days to order. We come to you, usually the same day, and the key is cut and programmed at your car. You also talk to the locksmith who does the work, and you get the price before we drive out.
