Honda Ignition Repair in Phoenix, AZ
Is your Honda ignition acting up?
Older Hondas are known for this. The signs usually start small and get worse:
- The key won’t turn, or turns only after you jiggle it.
- The key gets stuck and won’t come out.
- The steering wheel stays locked.
- The driver’s door lock feels stiff too.
- A brand-new copy of your key doesn’t work any better.
Don’t force it. A key that breaks off inside the ignition turns a repair into a bigger job. Call us instead.
Why Hondas do this
Many Honda ignitions use small metal wafers inside the lock cylinder. After years of use the wafers wear and start to bind, and the key’s cuts wear down at the same time. That’s why a copy made from your old key often doesn’t help — it copies the wear.
How we fix it
We come to your car, take the ignition cylinder apart and rebuild it with new parts, keyed to your existing key so one key still runs the whole car. If your key itself is worn out — which is common — we cut a new key to factory specs from the key code instead of copying the old one. Then we test everything before we leave. Most Honda ignition jobs take about an hour and a half on site. No tow truck, no dealer appointment.
What Honda ignition repair costs
Most Honda ignition repairs are $300–$400. The exact price depends on your model and year, and we give it to you on the phone before we drive out — that is the price you pay. If you also need a new key cut by code, we’ll include it in the quote. Cash or card (card payments carry a 4% fee).
Hondas and Acuras we repair
Keyed ignitions on the Civic, Accord, CR-V, Odyssey, Pilot, Element and Fit — especially older models from the late 1990s through the 2010s — and keyed Acura models, which share Honda parts. Newer Hondas with push-button start don’t have this cylinder; if your push-to-start key isn’t detected, see car key replacement.
A note on the 2003–2004 recall
If you drive a 2003 Accord or Civic, or a 2003–2004 Element, Honda issued a recall (10V-364) to replace a part of the ignition interlock for free. It’s worth checking with a Honda dealer or on nhtsa.gov whether yours was done. Worn wafers and worn keys are a separate problem, and that’s what we fix.
