Schools run on doors. Classrooms, offices, supply rooms, front entrances, gates, and the exit doors that have to open every single time. When a lock fails, a key goes missing, or a closer stops closing, the day gets harder for everyone. Desert Locksmith is a mobile locksmith in Phoenix that works with schools, charter and private schools, preschools, child care centers, and after-school and tutoring programs. The owner, Ran, does the work himself, so the person you talk to on the phone is the person who shows up at your door.

What We Do for Schools
Rekeying after lost keys or staff changes
When a key is lost or someone leaves, you do not have to replace every lock. We rekey on site so the old keys stop working and your hardware stays in place. That is usually faster and less expensive than new locks, and the doors are back in service the same visit.
Master key systems
A master key system lets one key open the doors it should and nothing else. A teacher might carry a key to one classroom and the supply room, an office manager a key to the front offices, and the principal or director a key to the whole building. We design the system around your doors and keep a written record of the keys issued, so you always know who has what.
Classroom, office, and storeroom locks
We install and repair commercial lever locks, mortise and cylindrical locks, and high-security cylinders. Different doors need different functions. A classroom, a main office, and a chemical or supply closet each call for their own kind of lock, and we help you match the lock to the door.
Panic bars and exit devices
Exit doors have to open easily from the inside and latch securely every time. We install, repair, and adjust panic bars and exit devices, and we fix the common problems: bars that stick, latches that do not catch, and strikes that have drifted out of line.
Door closers
A closer that is too slow leaves a door hanging open. One that is too fast slams on small hands. We adjust, repair, and replace commercial door closers so doors close completely and latch on their own.
Keypads, card readers, and fob access
Keypads, card and fob readers, and electric strikes mean there is no metal key to lose or copy, and you can remove a lost card without rekeying a door. We install and service these on office, entry, and storage doors.
Pushbutton locks
Pushbutton combination locks on gates and storage areas wear out with heavy daily use. We repair and rebuild them on site. See our recent Simplex pushbutton lock repair.
How It Works
For simple work such as a rekey, a closer adjustment, or a lock swap, we can usually give you the price on the phone. For bigger projects such as a master key system or access control, we look at the doors first and agree on the price before any work starts.
We schedule around your day. Tell us your bell times, drop-off and pick-up windows, and any days when students are not on site, and we will work out what fits. Work happens inside your building, so we keep the area tidy and the doors working before we leave.
Who We Are
Desert Locksmith is owner-operated, family-owned, and insured. We have 20+ years of locksmith experience. We are BBB A+ rated, ALOA members, and GSA and Kaba X-09 certified, which means we are used to working where security and record keeping matter. We can send a certificate of insurance on request.
We are one locksmith, not a large crew. That makes us a good fit for single campuses, charter and private schools, preschools, and child care centers. For a very large multi-building project, call and we will tell you plainly whether it is a fit for one technician.
Schools We Serve
Public and charter schools, private schools, preschools, child care centers, and after-school and tutoring programs in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, Glendale, Peoria, and Paradise Valley.
School Locksmith FAQ
Do we need to replace our locks if a key is lost?
Usually not. Rekeying changes the inside of the lock so the lost key no longer works, and you keep the same hardware. If a lock is worn or damaged, or you want an upgrade, replacing it makes sense, and we will tell you which one fits.
Can you set up one key for each staff member?
Yes. A master key system gives each person a key that opens only the doors they need. We keep a record of the keys issued.
Do you install and repair panic bars and door closers?
Yes. We install, repair, and adjust exit devices and door closers so doors open from the inside and latch every time. For code requirements, your fire marshal or building inspector has the final say, and we are glad to work with what they require.
Can you add keypads or card readers to our doors?
Yes. We install keypads, card and fob readers, and electric strikes for office, entry, and storage doors.
Can you work around our school schedule?
We work Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 6pm. Tell us your schedule when you call and we will find a time that causes the least disruption.
Can you send proof of insurance?
Yes. We are insured and can send a certificate of insurance on request.
